Useful Items

The forms on this page are provided for your use in a variety of areas.  The list of unclaimed property sites, although not comprehensive, is provided just in case you have money waiting for you that you don’t know about – perhaps a manufacturer’s rebate that you were to receive but you moved before it could reach you or a refund from someone who can’t find your address.

The identity theft information is a link to the Federal Trade Commission’s site on identity theft, which provides several publications to help protect you and your business from identity theft.  It also provides a very important publication for your use if you’ve been a victim of identity theft.

The form to stop preapproved credit offers is published by one of the three credit reporting companies.  If you print it out, fill it out, and mail it in (one for you and one for any other adult member of your household), it will prevent companies who want to send you preapproved credit offers from being able to check your credit reports with all three credit reporting companies without your knowledge or consent and then sending you unsolicited offers for credit cards, etc.

The application for residence homestead election is here in case you haven’t applied for homestead status on your home.  If you haven’t already done so, filling in this form and filing it with your local appraisal district may save you money on your property taxes.

The list provided in How to Understand and Improve Your Credit Score may help you when applying for credit.

A list of unclaimed property sites

  1. https://txcpa.cpa.state.tx.us/up/Search.jsp

  2. www.unclaimed.org – click on the “Owners” link and then “Find Property” to see the map and pull down menu with links or information on all 50 states’ unclaimed property.

  3. www.missingmoney.com

  4. www.nupd.com – the only drawback to this site is that it appears to be a private site that requires registration to use, so you may be subjected to banner ads.

What to do if you are the victim of identity theft

  • If you are a victim of identity theft, go to www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/

  • Go to the bottom right to the section called, “Key Publictions”
